After the UK, the Canadian TV series Murdoch Mysteries - which is aired on the Canadian TV network CityTV - is preparing its entrée in China. Shaftesbury Films, the production studio behind this TV series, announced that Murdoch Mysteries will be broadcasted in China on CCTV-8, a channel dedicated to drama series.
While the third season has already been aired in Canada, more than 200 million Chinese will have the chance to see Murdoch Mysteries's first and second seasons dubbed in Mandarin.
This TV series based on a novel series by Maureen Jennings takes place in the Toronto of the 1890s. Det. William Murdoch (Yannick Bisson) investigates homicide cases and he has to deal with a boss (Thomas Craig). In fact, Det. Murdoch advocates the use of forensic techniques, which were radically new at the time. Moreover, in the Toronto Police Department, Murdoch has allies in the form of Dr. Julia Ogden (Hélène Joy), a young pathologist who shares Murdoch's passion for science, and Constable George Crabtree (Jonny Harris), a young policeman.
Murdoch Mysteries was recently honoured with an award for Excellent Drama Series at the 2010 Seoul International Drama Awards, which were presented in Seoul, Korea on September 10. The series’ lead, Bisson, was in attendance to accept the award on behalf of Shaftesbury. The fourth season is currently in production in Toronto and Hamilton.
