Without any surprises, one of the most popular Canadian reality shows is back. For that matter, the Toronto Star revealed yesterday the identity of the competitors for the second season of this show that has been compared to Dancing with the Stars.
Here's the concept of Battle of the Blades: this reality pairs up eight retired NHL players with eight female figure skaters. Each week, each team will have to perform a choreography on Sunday nights live in Toronto. The next day, three team facing elimination will compete. At the end of this result day, the public's choice will be revealed. With that said, the winning team gets to donate $100,000 to a cause of their choice.
For this year, the Toronto Star revealed that participants, among the hockey players, include Theoren Fleury, Kelly Chase, Russ Courtnall, Valeri Bure, P.J. Stock, Patrice Brisebois, Todd Warriner and Georges Laraque.
As for the female figure skaters, some who were in the first season will return. For that matter, we can think of Jamie Salé, Shae-Lynn Bourne, Christine Hough-Sweeney and Isabelle Brasseur. As for the new figure skaters, we'll get to see Anabelle Langlois, who just retired from competitive figure skating after the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games. Moreover, among the new additions, we'll also get to see foreign figure skaters such as American figure skater Kyoko Ina, Violetta Afanasieva and Ekaterina Gordeeva, who are both from Russia.
Speaking about the change, the most notable one is the fact that the show will be shot to a waterfront studio instead of the Maple Leafs Garden, which is going through renovations. Moreover, the formation of the teams hasn't been confirmed yet.
The second season of Battle of the Blades will premiere on September 26 at 8 PM on CBC.
