Showtime, an American premium cable network, uploaded on its YouTube page a video that brings us on the set of the upcoming Canadian TV series The Borgias. In this video, Jeremy Irons, who play Rodrigo Borgia, and Neil Jordan, who directs some episodes of the TV series, talk about the leading characters of The Borgias.
The TV series follows the Borgias, a very powerful family at the time of the Italian Renaissance. In 1492, Rodrigo Borgia (Jeremy Irons) becomes the pope of the Catholic church in 1492 until his death in 1503. In our conscience, the Borgias are synonym of immorality, criminality, nepotism and corruption. In fact, did you know that pope Alexander VI - or should I say Rodrigo Borgia - tried to place members of his family in the Catholic clergy of Italy? Did you know that even as a pope, Alexander VI had mistresses?
Joining Irons will be Colm Feore, as Giuliano Della Rovere (Rodrigo Borgia's arch nemesis); Holly Grainger, as Lucrezia Borgia (the family's daughter); François Arnaud, as Cesare Borgia (one of the sons); and David Oakes, as Juan Borgia.
Finally, The Borgias will premiere at some point in 2011 on Showtime and CTV, a private Canadian TV network.
