As always, Canada will be represented at the Cannes International Film Festival. In fact, Les amours imaginaires, the second film directed by Xavier Dolan, will compete in the category "Un certain regard" (which means "a certain glance").
The film talks about Francis (Xavier Dolan) and Marie (Monia Chokri). Both of them fall in love with Nicolas (Niels Schneider). As a friendship grows between the three of them, the obsession of Francis and Marie towards Nicolas also grows. Besides, Francis and Marie interpret differently the behaviour of Nicolas, because they feel loved.
This will be the second time Xavier Dolan goes to Cannes. The first time was last year when he presented to the world his debut feature film J'ai tué ma mère. Besides, the latter was presented at the Directors' Fortnight and won three awards: the C.I.C.A.E. Award, the Prix Regards Jeune and the SACD Prize.
Finally, the film will come out in Quebec on June 11 according to Remstar, Les amours imaginaires's Canadian distributor. On another note, this year's Cannes International Film Festival will be held from May 12th to 23th.
