Showcase, a Canadian cable network, announced that its all new original one-hour series Haven began production on April 20. No Canadian premiere date has been announced. Nonetheless, The Cultural Post announced a few weeks ago that Haven will premiere July 9 in the USA on Syfy, an American cable network.
The TV series is based on a novella, The Colorado Kid, written by American novelist Stephen King. It was shot in Lunenburg and Halifax, Nova Scotia.
The story is centred on Audrey Parker (Emily Rose), an FBI agent. She arrives in the small town of Haven, Maine. Before long, her natural curiosity lands her in the epicenter of activity in this curious enclave, which turns out to be a longtime refuge for people that are affected by a range of supernatural afflictions. As the townspeople’s dormant abilities begin to express themselves, Audrey helps keep these forces at bay while discovering the many secrets of Haven – including one surrounding her own surprising past in this extraordinary place. Among the citizens who cross Audrey’s path are local cop Nathan Wuornos (Lucas Bryant), who eventually becomes Audrey's partner, the mysterious and charming Duke Crocker (Eric Balfour) and her new boss, Police Chief Wournos (Nicholas Campbell).
