The series revolves around a powerful and corrupt 15th-century Italian family headed by patriarch Rodrigo Borgia (Jeremy Irons), who became Pope Alexander VI in 1492. Colm Feore (24; Bon Cop Bad Cop) plays Rodrigo’s arch nemesis Cardinal Giuliano Della Rovere. As for François Arnaud (J'ai tué ma mère; Yamaska), he plays Cesare Borgia, Rodrigo's son.
Besides, there are Canadians in the creative team. Jeremy Podeswa (The Pacific, Five Senses) will direct two episodes, Paul Sarossy (The Listener, Chloe) will be the director of photography and the production designer will be François Seguin (The Barbarian Invasions, Lucky Number Slevin).
Finally, other people involved in this show are Neil Jordan (The Crying Game, The End of The Affair) who writes and directs the first two episodes, and Michael Hirst (The Tudors, Elizabeth) who writes episodes 3 -10. The series The Borgias is executive produced by Sheila Hockin and John Weber (The Tudors, Canada's Next Top Model), James Flynn (The Tudors, Angela’s Ashes), Neil Jordan and Michael Hirst.
